BAGGERS CYCLE LENGTH OF THE COUNTRY TO EXERCISE JOINT WARRIOR

Four members of 849 Naval Air Squadron (The Baggers) decided to mix a major UK Maritime exercise with a momentous charity cycle ride that covered most of the country.

The group of four set off on their adventurous journey from Royal Naval Air Station in Cornwall to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland after deciding not to hop on the coach provided. Instead they jumped on their cycles and covered the distance from Lands Ends to John O’Groats which was estimated to be over 1000 miles.

The team was made up of; Lieutenant Commander James Taylor, Chief Petty Officer Shawn Gimbert, Petty Officer Ricky Collins and Leading Air Engineering Technician Alexander Griffiths.

The quartet left Lands’ End on 24 September and arrived 14 days later 07 October. They slept in tents and supported throughout by LAET Matt Galliver and AET Luke Britzman, who kept up their spirits and logistical demands. The team will now remain in Scotland to conduct the Joint Warrior before catching the coach back to Cornwall in a couple of weeks.

So far they have raised almost £2500 for their three chosen charities RNRMC, the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
