Home! The Flying Tiger’s Mohawk Flight returned to RNAS Culdrose this week after three months at sea on frontline duties in the north Atlantic.
The team of engineers and aircrew flew back to 814 Naval Air Squadron where their families had gathered to welcome them home.
Their Merlin Mk2 helicopter was the airborne arm of frigate HMS Portland – the pair form a formidable submarine-hunting force - which also returned to HMNB Devonport this week.
Their time away has seen them on operations across the north Atlantic as well as taking part in two major NATO exercises – Steadfast Defender and Dynamic Mongoose.
The ship has ranged from the arctic coast of Norway to the Greenland-Iceland gap as well as operations from the coast of Scotland.
Highlights include torpedo exercises with the carrier strike group and witnessing the stunning northern lights.
